Massey Ferguson Bale Chamber Wear Plates
The bale chamber wear plates — commonly referred to as cheese grate plates or waffle plates — are fitted to the interior walls of the bale chamber to increase surface friction during bale formation. This friction is a key factor in achieving consistent bale density and shape, particularly in difficult or variable crop conditions. As a consumable component, wear plate condition has a direct and measurable impact on bale quality.
Wear plates should be inspected regularly and replaced in pairs — uneven wear between the two plates will produce asymmetric friction across the chamber, resulting in misshapen or inconsistently dense bales. Surface profile depth is the key wear indicator; plates that have worn smooth will offer significantly reduced friction and should be replaced before bale quality is compromised.
